SHE History
The Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHE) is the Rutgers University student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). The Society of Hispanic Engineers at Rutgers University was founded in 1984 by seven Hispanic engineering students. They saw the need for an organization where Hispanic engineering students could meet to address their cultural concerns. The society was founded with the motto "Recruit, Retain, and Graduate minority students majoring in engineering, math, or science." Initially, SHE was established independently from SHPE. In 1988 SHE became a recognized chapter of SHPE.
SHE Vision
SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

Academic Achievement
As a priority in SHE, we provide instruction and services that support the development of skills necessary for effective performance and positive adjustment to the learning environment of Rutgers University. This vision of academic enhancement for all members has enabled us to focus on our members' individual needs. Through creative planning and continuous mentorship, SHE provides learning assistance that supports students', from orientation through graduation and beyond.

Leadership Development
An integral part of our organization is building leaders for the future. Leadership is a competency that one learns to expand his/her perspective, set the context of a goal, understand the dynamics of human behavior and take the initiative to get to where he/she wants to be. Our members can drastically enhance their leadership abilities through the many opportunities offered by this organization.
-
Professional Development
We teach our members the essential skills necessary to be successful in Corporate America. Various opportunities in numerous work fields are presented through the year. Professional development serves as the bridge between where prospective and experienced students are now and where they need to be, to face the challenges of tomorrow.

Community Service/Outreach
The Society of Hispanic Engineers thrives on being able to give back to the community. Events such as the Shadow Program – High School Outreach, enable us to motivate high school students to pursue a higher education. Through Community Service, we are able to engage in various activities will have an impact on the lives of others, as well as our own.

Chapter Development
The most valuable asset to the society is our membership, thus we are committed to supporting them by offering a variety of fun, social events. We offer a multitude of enjoyable workshops, activities, and both outdoors and indoors sports. These activities show the members the value of teamwork and interdependence.
Clearly, SHE is a great organization that continues to contribute to the success of Latinos and other minorities in engineering and science fields. Today, our current membership consists of over 90 students representing a variety of engineering and science disciplines. SHE's main objective is preparing members to be leaders in a competitive engineering and scientific career. Our vision is to provide our members with self-development and professional-development workshops during the academic year.
SHE Logo
The shield contained within the parallel laurel wreaths is a composite of our chapter motto, the SHPE logo, and our organization title. It is also complemented by a notepaper label enclosing our establishment date. The logo is topped with the scarlet knight, a icon representative of Rutgers University.
